Below is an outline of Library of Congress subject categories that are useful for Latin American Studies. Although conducting an appropriate search in the Library Catalog is the best way to find specific items, these broad categories are helpful for browsing the reference room and the stacks of Davis Library. Just keep in mind that information pertinent to Latin America can be found in many different areas depending upon the predominant subject matter. For example, books about feminism could be classified in the area of anthropology, political science, history, or literature depending upon the topic's context. Think "interdisciplinary" and never hesitate to ask a reference librarian if you have questions. A complete outline of the Library of Congress classification can be found online at http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/lcco/.
