Comprenhensive work that covers Latin American literature (including Brazilian) from pre-Columbian times to the present, and contains chapters on Spanish American writing in the U.S. Volume I begins with pre-Columbian traditions to the end of the 19th century, covering New World historiography, epic poetry, theatre, the novel, and the essay form. Volume II provides coverage for all genres from the end of 19th century up to 1990, including discussions of Afro-Hispanic American literature, theatre, and Chicano literature. Volume III includes history of Brazilian literature and a comprehensive bibliography.

Multidisciplinary reference on Latin American literary culture. Provides topically arranged articles that focus on "the shifting problems that have arisen across national borders, geographic regions, time periods, linguistic systems, and cultural traditions in literary history." Volume I discusses the empirical, the ideological and the discursive areas of the literary culture. Volume II concentrates in "cultural modalities, discursive modes, institutional sanctions, and cultural centers" in Latin America. Volume III focuses on "modes of representation and the resultant narrative."

Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes (In Spanish)
An extensive digital publishing project of Spanish and Hispanic-American archival material. The catalog contains more than 14,000 full-text documents, including books, magazines and journals, doctoral theses, documentaries, interviews, audio narratives, visual collections, etc., in a variety of formats (digitized text, facsimile, multimedia, voice recordings, video, archival documents, photographs, drawings and paintings).

Biblioteca Virtual do Estudante da Língua Portuguesa (In Portuguese)
This project aims to offer free educational resources for students and professors of Portuguese. The collection includes, among other materials, complete texts of Brazilian and foreign literary works, articles about education, audio books and sound recordings of famous people, documentaries on video, and images of items from the Museu de Arqueologia e Etnologia da Universidade de São Paulo.

Biblioteca Virtual de Literatura (In Portuguese)
With special emphasis on Brazilian literature, the BVL primarily deals with literature in the Portuguese language as well as with Latin American and other literatures. Dramatic literature is included, linked to activities to be presented on stage. The BVL analyzes sites with access to archives and collections online, announces the publication of new works of literature including those created on the Web, and offers a news service covering major literary events in the world of books and literary studies.

Handbook of Latin American Studies (HLAS)
HLAS is an annotated bibliography on Latin America, with works selected by scholars and edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. The multidisciplinary Handbook alternates annually between the social sciences and the humanities, and with more than 5,000 works selected each year offers an essential guide to available resources. Use natural language search terms: buddhism, cross-cultural studies, economic sanctions Iraq, etc.

MLA International Bibliography
A major index for literary criticism, linguistics, folklore & cultural studies. MLA International Bibliography is produced by the Modern Language Association. Index to articles in literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore from several thousand journals and series published worldwide. Also covers relevant monographs, working papers, proceedings, and bibliographies.

El Poder de la Palabra (In Spanish)
A web site dedicated to poetic prose. It contains 2,462 fragments of literary texts as well as the biographies and images of the authors. The collection includes authors from all over the world, but especially Hispanic authors. The site also includes images of works of art, architecture and music.

This database provides access to multi-disciplinary information on Africa, such as articles, books, newspapers, government documents, radio and TV broadcasts, pamphlets, maps, theses, and music recordings. It compiles nearly 2 million records from nearly 30 separate databases originally created in Africa, Europe, and the United States. It covers topics from politics, history, economics, business, mining, natural sciences, environment, development, social issues, anthropology, literature, language, law, music, tourism and much more.

International Index to Black Periodicals
"Includes current and retrospective bibliographic citations and abstracts from over 150 scholarly and popular journals, newspapers, and newsletters from the US, Africa, and the Caribbean--and full-text coverage of 40 core Black Studies periodicals (1998 forward)." Annual Afro-Hispanic Literature and Culture Conference
"The Annual Afro-Hispanic Literature and Culture Conference provides a forum for scholars in the humanities and social sciences who are interested in the study of African contributions to the languages and cultures of the Americas, creating a space for the dissemination of works by neglected Afro-Hispanic writers, bringing about an increased awareness of the considerable contributions of Blacks to the development of Spanish-speaking countries, fostering a more pluralistic vision for educators involved in foreign languages and cultural studies."
