About the United States Code

The United States Code is a codification of "the general and permanent laws of the United States" arranged by subject.

The U.S. Code is organized into 50 "Titles" or broad subject areas, and then into numerous chapters and sections. New editions are published every six years and cumulative supplements are issued after each session of Congress. When a new public law of a general and permanent nature is passed, the appropriate section of the Code is revised to reflect the new statute.

U.S. Code citations include the title number, followed by the abbreviation "USC" and the section number. For example: 44 USC 1911.
