Manuscripts Research Tutorial
Search Room
Researchers use all manuscript materials in the Department's Search Room and follow the rules and procedures [link to research agreement] outlined in the research agreement.

You may bring your laptop computer or PDA into the Search Room. All other items are prohibited. The Department provides pencils, notepaper, and note cards, available in the Search Room.

Manuscripts Department Search Room

In order to maintain a quiet and professional research environment please:
  • keep conversation to a minimum; and
  • turn off cell phones and pagers (store in a locker).
The Search Room is monitored on closed-circuit television and public services staff.

Supplies provided by Manuscripts Department

  • Complimentary pencils, notepaper, and note cards are provided.
  • Magnifying glasses and stands also available for your convenience.
  • Quick reference items available: dictionary, Bible, and retrospective calendars.
Public Services Window
  • Receive and return all manuscript materials at the public services window.
  • Never exit the search room with manuscript material.
  • Ring the doorbell for assistance.
  • Present your laptop and notes for inspection when you exit the Search Room.
Researcher using Manuscripts Department 
								Search Room In order to preserve the materials please:
  • handle the items with care; and
  • keep materials in order.

Limited duplication services are available. Please consult the public services staff if you are interested in duplication.

Manuscripts Department Audio Visual 
								Search Room Audio Visual Search Room has playback equipment for audio cassettes, CDs, and VHS video cassettes. Headphones are provided for both listening and viewing stations.

This room also has a light box and loupes for viewing slides.

Personal recording devices and laptops are prohibited in the Audio Visual Search Room.
