Electronic Books

A growing number of mathematical books are freely accessible on the Internet. Many are significant historical works no longer protected by copyright, but some more recent titles are also available.

The Multi-Repository Mathematics Collections contain over 2,000 volumes of significant historical mathematical material from three major digital collections:

The University of Michigan and Cornell University Library collections contain interfaces that allow you to search these collections individually or simultaneously. You may search only by author, title, publisher, place and year of publication in the Goettingen collection, while the other collections allow you to search within the text of the articles. Note that the Goettingen interface searches the university's entire Document Server.

AMS Books Online provides access to a small collection of books published by the American Mathematical Society, individual titles on other websites, and larger collections of scholarly mathematics books on the Internet.

In addition to books available for free online, UNC has purchased many e-books. It's easy to do a keyword search for e-books in the Library Catalog. The search results are linked directly to the electronic form of the books.
