Psychology Research Tutorial

E-Research Tools

Because psychology is a very broad field, you may need to search for your topic in a number of different databases. Listed below are some recommended resources for researching psychological topics.

PsycINFO
PsycInfo, the American Psychological Association's database, provides citations and abstracts from nearly 2,000 sources, and contains over two million records. It includes relevant materials from related disciplines such as medicine, psychiatry, education, social work, law, criminology, social science, and organizational behavior and provides indexes to journals, dissertations, book chapters, books, technical reports, and other documents from 1887 to the present.

PubMed
PubMed includes over 14 million citations for biomedical articles dating back to the 1950's. These citations are from MEDLINE and other life science journals. This database is particularly applicable to research in psychology as it intersects with research in other fields, such as psychiatry. The database includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.
