Finding Newspaper Articles through Databases
Newspapers are a great source of national and regional information. You may want to browse the major newspapers and local papers before heading abroad, and use them for your own research when you are in China.
You also may search for specific issues or topics in major Chinese newspapers through the LexisNexis Academic database. Choose "World News" and "Asia/Pacific News Sources." Click on the "source list" to see available titles.
You may also want to visit the Ethnic NewsWatch database to search for articles on the ethnic groups who live in areas you plan to visit. For instance, you may want to search for news on the native people of Tibet, or the Hezhen people of far northeastern China.
Finding Newspapers Online
Many major Chinese newspapers publish their articles online at the same time they are published in print. Much of their material is free and available to Web visitors. Several newspapers are listed below, along with the cities where they are published. If you will be traveling to another region of China, try searching online for a link to that newspaper. Take some time to enjoy the photographic and cultural sections that some of these papers have.

Many Chinese citizens are quite Web-savvy, and prefer getting their news online each day. The best of these sources provide up-to-the-minute local, national, and international news. Here are three popular sources to try:
BBC News: Asia-Pacific 
The British Broadcasting Corporation, popularly known as "The BBC," employs numerous staff across
China as part of its BBC News: Asia-Pacific reporting. The site covers news in all regions of China, and is updated several
times per hour. You can choose to read the site in English or Chinese.
China Online 
Many Chinese Americans, or Americans who are interested in Chinese business and current events, turn to this
site, which is produced in the United States. It contains up-to-date, in-depth stories about China and its interactions with the world. China Online is a great source to keep in mind when you have trouble finding the information you want in English.

This site presents news, as well as loads of cultural and business information. It's great for finding local news or activities.
