Most libraries in China use the Chinese Library Classification system. Believe it or not, you may find it easier to locate the books you need in China than in America. Almost all types of libraries in China have adopted this same system, so if you learn to find books at your Chinese university, you'll know how to find them in a public library too. The Chinese Library Classification looks sort of similar to the Library of Congress system: Roman letters and then numbers, sometimes including decimals. However, the letters are assigned to different subjects than in the Library of Congress system. For instance, in China, literature is in section I rather than section P.
Remember, you can always ask a librarian in China, or contact UNC-Chapel Hill librarians if you need help! If you have more in-depth questions, you can contact the Libraries' Chinese-language specialist, Hsi-Chu Bolick.
