The National Library of the Czech Republic
(English-language site) is the oldest and largest public
library in the country. It houses over 6 million volumes, including many unique medieval manuscripts. It also contains the largest Slavonic
collection in Central Europe. It is the main research library for the entire country, and is used by scholars from all over the world.
To obtain a library card, an American student would have to present a passport and pay a fee of 100 CZK.
To obtain a library card, an American student would have to present proof of residency in the Czech Republic for a six-month period, or to pay a monetary deposit of 1000 CZK.
