Libraries at French colleges and universities will probably seem familiar to you. Their set-ups, catalogs, and collections have many similarities to their American counterparts. You will find books, journals, e-resources, theses, and other media that you're used to--but in French. French academic libraries often do not have extensive collections in English. If you find yourself in need of English-language materials, you can check with some specialized libraries in major cities, such as the
American Library in Paris. You can also access many materials through the
UNC-Chapel Hill Libraries web site, or ask a local librarian for help.
Most French academic libraries have high-quality online catalogs.
Options for search terms are very similar, such as title, author, and keywords. Large academic libraries often
have closed stacks, and may be arranged using
UDC classification or their own systems.
