India Study Abroad Research Tutorial

Newspapers and News Web Sites from India

Finding Newspaper Articles through Databases

Newspapers are a great source of national and regional information. You may want to browse the major newspapers and local papers before heading abroad, and use them for your own research when you are in India. You also may search for specific issues or topics in major Indian newspapers through the LexisNexis Academic database.

Here is how to find newspaper articles from India:

Step 1: Click on the tab for Sources.

Step 2: Select India on the country list.

Step 3: Click on the folder for News.

Step 4: Click on the folder for Newspapers.

Step 5: Click on the titles of each newspaper that you want to search.

Step 6: Click "OK - Continue" on the far right.

Step 7: Enter keywords. Combine them using the word "and." For instance, "export and wine" (no quotes necessary). Both English and French keywords work, though they may bring different results.

Step 8: Select a range of dates, then hit Search.

Note: If you have one specific newspaper in mind, you can search using the E-Journal Finder. Enter the title of your newspaper and click Search. If your newspaper comes up more than once, you can click on any of the headings. Just make sure the dates include the present.

You may also want to visit the Ethnic NewsWatch database to search for articles on the ethnic groups who live in areas you plan to visit. For instance, you may want to search for news on Tibetans living in Himachal Pradesh, or Tamils in Tamil Nadu.
