Italian Cinema

One of Italy’s greatest cultural legacies is its cinema, and Italian film-making has had a major impact on Hollywood, particularly in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. UNC’s Media Resource Center (MRC) in the Undergraduate Library can help you brush up on classics such as:

La Dolce Vita, by Federico Fellini (1961)
Accattone, by Pier Paolo Pasolini (1961)
Roma, Città Aperta / Rome Open City, by Roberto Rossellini (1945)

Two recent, award-winning Italian films address earlier periods in Italian history:

Il Postino / The Postman, by Michael Radford (1994)
