Italian Guidebooks
Travel guides may be the easiest way to familiarize yourself with an area. In addition to offering helpful cultural overviews, Italian guidebooks contain city-specific information about food, sites, and festivals. The UNC Libraries have some of these titles, but you also might consider buying a copy to take with you overseas.
To search the
UNC Library Catalog enter Italy
followed by a space and the word "guidebooks" in the subject heading box in the online catalog.
You may also want to browse the shelves. Guidebooks are shelved in areas with the following call numbers:
- D909: General Europe travel guides
- DG: Italy (travel guides at DG416)
Italy: A Complete Guide to 1,000 Cities, Towns and Landmarks by the Touring Club of Italy is a good place to start. This can be found in Davis Library at DG416 .I8213 1997.

Lonely Planet are good places to start your search online. Try searching by "Italy", or the names of specific cities. Lonely Planet also provides an abbreviated version of Italy: A Travel Survival Kit, online.
