Study Abroad in Italy Research Tutorial

AIB-WEB: Introduction

One last Italian website that may assist you in your research is a site full of links to online catalogs in Italy compiled by the Italian Library Association (AIB). The portal is entitled, "Repertorio degli OPAC italiani" (Italian Online Public Access Catalog Directory), and it's located online at http://www.aib.it/aib/opac/repertorio.htm.

AIB main options

AIB-WEB can tell you whether or not an Italian library has an online catalog. So if you have a specific repository in mind, you can save time by going straight to AIB-WEB as opposed to looking for the information in a search engine like Google.

Using AIB-WEB, you can browse the entire pool of Italian libraries with online catalogs, or, if you know whether your desired library is a public, state, ecclesiastic, school, university, or research library, you can search through a smaller pool of libraries.

Either way, the libraries are divided by region, then by city. If you have this information, it shouldn’t take you long to find out whether or not your library of choice has an online catalog.
