Newspapers are a great source of national and regional information. You may want to browse the major newspapers and local papers before heading abroad, and use them for your own research when you are in South Africa.
UNC subscribes to print editions of the Mail & Guardian, a daily English-language newspaper that covers news from across South Africa. Visit the serials department on the first floor of Davis Library for current issues. Alternatively, check out the Mail & Guardian's online headlines.
Finding Newspapers Online
Many other regional South African newspapers have a web presence and some offer daily headlines via email. These are a few of the more prominent, English-language dailies and weeklies:
Cape Argus (Cape Town, daily)
The Sunday Times (Johannesburg, weekly/daily)
City Press (Johannesburg, weekly)
Pretoria News (Pretoria, daily)
The Natal Witness (Kwa-Zulu Natal, daily)
The Internet Public Library has a more extensive listing of online South African newspapers, including those in languages other than English.
South Africa News Via RSS Feeds
Another great way to collect South African headlines in an online format is through RSS feeds. Once you have an RSS feed reader set up, some of the content providers you might consider for South Africa-related news include:

Independent Online (IOL), South Africa's largest independent news site.

AllAfrica Global Media, a multi-media content service provider, systems technology developer and the largest electronic distributor of African news and information worldwide.
The New York Times, world news about South Africa, including breaking news and archival articles published in The New York Times.
