The Online Catalog

Below is a sample Advanced Search (búsqueda avanzada) screen from the University of Seville library catalog. This screen is similar to the Online Catalog at UNC-Chapel Hill Libraries.  Remember your accent marks! (à á ç è é ì í ï ñ ò ó ù ú ü).

In the default Advanced Search screen below, Cualquier campo means "any field," which will do a keyword (palabra clave) search throughout the entire catalog record.  Change this to Autor or Títulos to search by author or title.  To combine search terms, you can use the pull-down menu on the left. The default Y represents the Boolean operator AND; Y No is the operator NOT; O is the operator OR. For more information on using Boolean Operators or connectors, see the Library Research Tutorial. Cerca De searches for words near or in proximity to each other.

You can also restrict your search to English language works by changing Idioma to Inglés.

To use a simple search more similar to Google that automatically does a keyword search for you, go to the Simple Search or búsqueda simple screen.

Please note that, as with most American catalogs, to do an author search in a Spanish library catalog, you need to enter the author's last name first, followed by the author's first and middle name.
