Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
The Monographic Orders Assistant must have keyboarding and Microsoft Office applications experience. This person should have the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, manage time and meet deadlines, and have an aptitude for detailed work and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The Monographic Orders Assistant must have flexibility and the ability to shift priorities quickly and possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Description of Duties
The Monographic Services Department efficiently and effectively manages the acquisition and cataloging of monographic research materials (both print and electronic) for the University Library's collections. The Department is responsible for expending a monographic materials budget of c. $5,000,000 annually. Monographic Services acquires print and non-print materials (including e-books) using a variety of acquisition methods: firm orders, approval plans, blanket orders and standing orders. The E-Books & Specialized Acquisitions Section performs bibliographic searching on and keys incoming firm order requests, places rush orders for urgent acquisitions, manages standing orders and places orders for collections of e-books and datasets.

The Monographic Orders Assistant receives, prioritizes and distributes incoming firm order requests, searching them in library and other databases; keys orders into the Millennium integrated library system (ILS); records duplicate order requests; assists with sorting and mailing purchase orders and claims; receives small approval plan books, including the Music Blanket Order Plan and Art Approval Plan; monitors department-wide email account, distributing order status notices to appropriate staff; and, as workloads vary, performs other tasks in support of the E-Books & Specialized Acquisitions Section and the Monographic Services Department.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school and two years of clerical experience, preferably in a library.

Preferred Qualifications:
Library work experience, particularly in acquisitions or cataloging; bibliographic knowledge of at least one Western European language; Experience with Millennium or another ILS.
