Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
The North Caroliniana Serials and Binding Specialist must have strong computer skills and aptitude, problem solving skills, and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate must be able to prioritize tasks effectively, manage time and meet deadlines, and perform complex tasks with a high degree of accuracy and minimal direct supervision. The North Caroliniana Serials and Binding Specialist must be flexible and willing to learn new skills, able to work well with a wide variety of people, and comfortable working independently on concentrated tasks.

Description of Duties:
The Special Collections Technical Services Department processes materials for all of the collections in the Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library. The North Caroliniana Serials and Binding Specialist works chiefly with North Carolina Collection (NCC) materials. Principal responsibilities are: to check in all newly received serial issues for the North Carolina Collection (NCC) using the Millennium integrated library system; to claim missing issues of NCC serials that are gift subscriptions; to prepare the NCC's serial and monographic holdings for binding or boxing by the Library's chosen vendor; to acquire and process UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduate honors essays for the NCC; to collect and process websites identified by the NCC's Associate Curator for inclusion in the NCC; to maintain records of materials processed, claimed, or sent for binding/boxing; to provide reference service in Wilson's second floor reading room; and to assist with special projects as needed. This position reports to the Assistant Head of Special Collections Technical Services Department, and works closely with the NCC's Associate Curator, NCC catalogers, the E-Records Archivist, and the Library's serials and bindery staffs.

Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous academic library and technical services experience, preferably with special collections materials; experience with components of the Microsoft Office suite of applications; familiarity with OCLC and Millennium or another integrated library system; the ability to work well under pressure; familiarity with North Carolina history, geography, and culture.
