The successful candidate must: have experience working with diverse users in a public service setting; be a flexible and reliable self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills; have excellent interpersonal skills; have the ability to work independently and in a team-oriented setting; be accurate and able to attend to details, problem solve, and set priorities among multiple responsibilities; possess basic skills with current standard office software and equipment; have the ability to acquire new skills as processes and systems change; and be dedicated to analyzing work processes and suggesting improvements.

Description of Duties:
The University Library Specialist in the Research & Instructional Services Department of the Louis Round Wilson Library provides supervision of the 2nd floor reading room, which services material from the North Carolina and Rare Book Collections. Primary duties are: management of reading room services and security; management of internal and external circulation of special collections material, including interlibrary loan, campus-based document delivery, and project-based digitization; scheduling of reading room coverage, including staff and student schedules, in consultation with other departmental staff members; participation in the analysis, development, and implementation of reading room policies; supervision of work assigned to student employees; reference services to library patrons in person, on the phone, via email and using online chat; instruction in the use of and troubleshooting of library reproduction equipment, including copy machines, microfilm reader/printers, digital cameras, and scanners; and other duties as assigned for the benefit of the library and its patrons.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with occasional, scheduled weekend work.

Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, History, Library Science, or related fields. Prior experience working in a reference or public services position, especially in a special collections library or archive. Knowledge of North Carolina's history, literature, and culture. Supervisory experience. Working knowledge of library-oriented software, especially Atlas System's ILLiad interlibrary loan software and Aeon special collections management software, or other integrated library systems. Library instruction or other teaching experience.
