Position: Fines and Billing Assistant

Salary Range: $24,605 - $54,000

The Fines and Billing Assistant works in the billing section of the Circulation Department of Davis Library. This individual processes and files all new bills and notices, monitors fine payments made at the Circulation Desk, and updates existing bill files and fine records. The Billing Assistant posts charges and clearances to student accounts at the University's Office of Student Accounts and University Receivables on a daily basis via SIS (Student Information Systems), prepares and sends letters to patrons with outstanding charges, works with the Billing Supervisor in compiling statistics using Excel software, and performs regular book searches in the stacks. Other Billing duties include daily deposits, supervising a student assistant assigned to the billing section, updating patron and item records in the Library's database using the Millennium software provided by Innovative Interfaces, and assisting patrons with specific billing-related problems or inquiries. The Billing Assistant interacts with the public in person at the Circulation Desk, by telephone, via email and chat, and through written correspondence.

General Circulation Department duties include providing public service at the Circulation Desk; supervising student assistant employees; responding to security, equipment, system, and facility problems; answering the phone; and shelving and sorting of books during intersessions and at other times as needed. Basic Circulation Desk duties include circulating books, serials, laptops, and other items to patrons; issuing borrower cards and creating new patron records in Millennium; taking fine payments; providing book finding, directional, or other assistance; and explanation of Department policies and procedures to Library users.

This position is being recruited at the Contributing Competency Level under the Career Banding program. The anticipated hiring range is $25,000 - $30,000.

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Temporary changes in the work schedule may be necessary on occasion due to holidays, absence of other staff, or exam schedules.

Qualifications

Required:
Completion of high school and two years experience in office support, preferably as a library technician in a library.
Preferred:
Strong oral and written communication skills, public service experience, knowledge of library classification systems, experience with computers and automated systems, and some college education. Experience in an academic library circulation department, supervisory experience, and basic accounting skills are preferred.
