The Serials Itemization Supervisor is a member of the Serials Cataloging & Binding Section of the E-Resources & Serials Management (ESM) Department in the University Library. ESM acquires, catalogs and manages access to electronic resources and to serials in all formats. The Serials Cataloging & Binding Section shares in the responsibility of cataloging and managing access. The Serials Itemization Supervisor is specifically tasked with facilitating greater access to the print collection. This position is one of five in the Serials Cataloging & Binding Section and reports to the Section Head.
The Serials Itemization Supervisor's principal responsibilities are to: train and supervise student assistants on serials itemization functions; direct the day-to-day activities of a large-scale operation; produce serials item records at a high rate and high degree of accuracy; perform complex cataloging; and resolve issues associated with lost, damaged, un-cataloged, and/or incorrectly identified serial volumes. The Serials Itemization Supervisor has regular contact with staff within the University Library, and is engaged in active problem solving.
This position is being recruited at the Contributing Competency Level under the Career Banding Program. The hiring range for this position is $25,000-26,416.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday during normal working hours preferred; some flexibility possible as long as essential duties are covered.
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred:
Previous library, serials, and supervisory experience; demonstrated accuracy and careful attention to detail; proven problem-solving skills; ability to organize tasks effectively in order to meet deadlines and high production demands; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others; and a willingness to adapt to change are essential. Reading knowledge of a western European language, strong word-processing, spreadsheet, and database skills, and familiarity with the Millennium integrated library system and OCLC Connexion are helpful.
