The University Library's Preservation Department is responsible for ensuring long-term access to scholarly resources and includes programs for preventing damage and loss of library collections, obtaining replacements and making reproductions, repairing damaged materials, managing commercial and in-house binding, and preparing new materials for public use. The Binding and Marking Coordinator is a member of the Preservation Services Section of the department and reports to the Supervisor of Preservation Services.
Principal duties of this position include: coordinating the work of the Binding and Marking Unit including commercial binding preparation and marking/shelf prep; supervising one FTE Binding Specialist position and 1-2 FTE-equivalent of student assistants; processing departmental library binding and maintaining a commercial binding database; preparing materials for the shelf by producing call number labels; providing training to library staff in binding and marking procedures; assisting with disaster recovery efforts as needed; and assisting with needs assessment, preservation replacement, and other departmental work as assigned.
This position is being recruited at the Journey Competency Level under the Career Banding program. The anticipated hiring range is $26,000 - $33,712.
Qualifications
Required:
Completion of high school and two years experience in office support, preferably as a library technician in a library.
Preferred:
Excellent communication, organizational, keyboarding, proofreading, and supervisory skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to adapt to changing procedures and goals. Previous experience working in a research library setting and familiarity with library procedures is useful.
