Position: University Library Technician - Office & Public Services Manager

Salary Range: $24,605 - $54,000

The University Library Technician (ULT) position helps oversee the Media Resource Center's (MRC) public service and circulation desk. The ULT works to ensure coverage of the public service desk including: hiring, training, supervising and evaluating student assistants in coordination with the MRC Manager. In support of this work, the candidate must have proven experience supervising, scheduling and training multiple employees, excellent public service skills, and the ability to prioritize work. Another principle function of this position is the Management of the Audio-book rental collection. Under the Direction of the Media Resources Librarian, the ULT assists with the collection development and management of audio CD titles for the MRC collection. In-depth experience working with Windows OS including: word processing, spreadsheets and databases is needed to support daily work in this position.

This position also acts as primary coordinator for scheduling campus film for classroom use including films from our library and local lending institutions. The ULT manages all films through the Triangle Research Library Network lending agreement and the MRC rental and free film loan program for the Middle Eastern Film Collection. The ULT also provides reserves and copy cataloging support for all MRC materials and works in conjunction with the MRC Reserves Specialist. The ULT additionally assists in other duties of the unit, including but not limited to maintaining office records and statistics, maintaining procedure manuals, managing overdue notices, and assisting with the cleaning & repair for all VHS, DVD & CD materials.

As a member of the Media Resources Center team, the ULT serves as one of the primary daytime Supervisors and assists in managing daily operations of the Media Resources Center including opening the Center in the absence of the MRC Manager. In addition to supervising public services at the circulation desk and supervising student assistants, these duties include, answering questions, taking fines, scheduling films, rooms & equipment and answering emails and telephone. The ULT works closely with faculty, students and staff, as well as members of the general UNC community.

This position is being recruited for at the Advanced Competency Level under the Career Banding program. The expected hiring range for this position is $28,402 - $41,725.

Work Schedule
Day shifts, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Scheduled Hours subject to change during summer sessions, intersessions and holidays.

Qualifications

Required:
Completion of high school and two years experience in office support, preferably in library services. Preferred:
Candidate will have supervisory and public service experience; proven ability to supervise 20-25 students within an academic departmental setting. Demonstrated ability to effectively serve the public and maintain harmonious work relationships with patrons, faculty and staff. The candidate must have the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and to work efficiently in a very busy environment with frequent calls to the service desk; flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills are expected, ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure. In-depth knowledge of Windows OS including: word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills and a careful attention to detail are preferred; ability to master library routines and an automated circulation system; demonstrated sound judgment and ability to effectively work independently and as a team member; record of reliability, promptness, and good attendance in previous employment. Also prefer familiarity with copy cataloging and/or reserves processing as well as experience with an integrated library system.
