A principal function of the Support Technician (ST) position is the creation and management of copy-cataloging and reserves records for Media Resources Center materials. The ST works in coordination with Media Resources Center staff and the Library Cataloging department to create, manage and maintain copy cataloging records for MRC media materials. This work includes maintaining a current materials status log for items sent for original cataloging as well as contacting faculty with regard to use and booking of incoming materials. In support of this work, the preferred candidate will have some experience processing and describing library materials. In-depth working knowledge of Windows OS including: word processing, spreadsheets, and databases required for this position. Experience with Mac OS X is also needed to support daily work in this position.
As a member of the Media Resources Center team, the ST serves as a primary evening Supervisor and oversees operations of the Media Resources Center up to two nights a week. Evening duties include supervising public services at the circulation/reserve desk, answering directional and reference questions, taking fines, and supervising the media labs and student assistants.
This position also has primary responsibility for the creation and management of Media Resources Center reserves materials. The ST additionally manages accounts receivable from MRC fines and special projects for the collection. This position also assists in other duties of the unit, including but not limited to maintaining in-building statistics, providing instructional support for all MRC digital audio and video lab hardware, software, and equipment, and training and supervising student assistants.
This position is being recruited for at the Journey Competency Level under the Career Banding program. Due to internal pay alignment and funding, the anticipated hiring range for this position is $33,000 - $37,209.
Work Schedule
Day shifts, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Evening shifts, 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. (Scheduled Hours subject to change during summer sessions, intersessions and holidays).
Qualifications
Required:
Graduation from high school and one year of experience in the field of technology related to the position's role. Coursework in computer or information technology may be substituted year for year for the required experience.
Preferred:
Candidate will have supervisory and public service experience. The candidate must have the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and to work efficiently in a very busy environment with frequent calls to the service desk. Strong communication and organizational skills and a careful attention to detail. Ability to tactfully interact with library patrons. Ability to master library routines and an automated circulation system. Proficiency in the processing and description of library materials. Copy cataloging and/or reserves management experience. In-depth knowledge of Windows OS including: word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. In-depth knowledge of Mac OS X. Flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills are expected. Demonstrated sound judgment and ability to work both independently and as a team member. Experience using video and audio editing software. Working knowledge of a variety of audio & video equipment and formats.
