Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
The Subscription Receipt Specialist is a member of the Print Serials Acquisitions Section of the E Resources & Serials Management (ESM) Department in the University Library. ESM acquires, catalogs and manages access to electronic resources and to serials in all formats. The Subscription Receipt Specialist is one of four positions in the Print Serials Acquisitions Section and reports to the Section Head. The Specialist's principal responsibilities are: to claim overdue subscription material on approximately 6,700 subscription titles; to order, receive and pay for subscription material missed through claiming; to hire, train and supervise student assistants who open package mail and check in approximately 6,700 subscription titles; to check in microfiche material; and as needed, to back up check in and the opening of package mail, which requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. The successful candidate must have proven problem solving ability and demonstrated organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail. The successful candidate must also have strong computer skills and aptitude, as most duties are carried out in the Millennium integrated library system. Additional responsibilities involve training staff, special projects as assigned by the supervisor, and helping to answer the departmental phone as needed.

The Subscription Receipt Specialist maintains regular contact with subject librarians and staff within the University Library, as well as with foreign and domestic vendors and exchange partners worldwide. The Specialist uses email, fax, phone and postal mail for business correspondence and uses online databases to research and resolve receipt problems. The Specialist will be cross-trained on other Print Serials Acquisitions functions, and Section workflows may shift in the coming year, so the successful candidate must be flexible and willing to learn new skills in order to carry out a wider range of duties

This position is being recruited at the Contributing Competency Level under the Career Banding Program. The hiring range for this position is $25,000-$26,500.

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday during normal business hours; some flexibility possible as long as essential duties are covered.

Qualifications

Required:
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others and to work independently in a team setting, prioritizing tasks effectively and managing time in order to meet deadlines; ability to maintain poise and tact under the pressure of high workloads, frequent interruptions and rapid technological changes; exposure to and familiarity with at least one modern European language; mathematical aptitude; experience creating spreadsheets and manipulating data; previous supervisory experience; previous serials experience; familiarity with Millennium or another integrated library system in a technical services environment.
