The University Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an applications analyst to join the application development team in the Library Systems department.
The successful candidate should have good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and other members of the department to solve problems. Using strong analytic skills and grounded in a sense of service, the Analyst will help define and create forward thinking solutions to some of the systems issues currently confronting academic libraries.
These solutions will be framed by a move toward more sustainable models of information systems development and workflow. They will be influenced by a strong preference for using and extending existing systems (locally developed, open source, and licensed). They will be integrating in nature. They will emphasize abstraction, taking advantage of and building lightweight APIs, and a RESTful approach to information systems architecture.
The Analyst should have an understanding of and experience with geospatial information systems, experience with XML and XSL in a variety of settings and experience with AJAX techniques for web development.
This position is being recruited for at the Journey Competency Level under the Career Banding program. The hiring range for this position is $61,668 - $65,000.
Qualifications
Required:
The analyst band requires a foundation of knowledge and skills in area of specialization generally obtained from graduating from a four-year college or university with nine semester hours in programming and one year of experience in business application consulting or development. Experience in the field of work related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred:
Experience with traditional markup and related competencies such as XHTML, CSS, XML, XSLT, JavaScript and an understanding of accessibility. Experience with interpreted scripting languages (e.g. Perl, PHP, Python), and
frameworks (e.g. CakePHP, Django), relational database development and systems (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, PostGIS). Experience with eXist and/or Solr. Experience with geospatial information systems.
