Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
The successful candidate must have experience working with diverse researchers in a library public service setting; be a flexible and reliable self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills; have excellent interpersonal skills; have the ability to work independently and in a team-oriented setting; be accurate and able to attend to details, problem solve, and set priorities among multiple responsibilities; possess basic skills with current standard office software and equipment; have the ability to acquire new skills as processes and systems change; and be dedicated to analyzing work processes and suggesting improvements. The person in this position must be able to lift heavy boxes of manuscript and archival materials that can weigh up to 40 pounds.

Description of Duties
The Reading Room Supervisor and Reference Associate in the Research & Instructional Services Department of the Louis Round Wilson Library provides supervision of the 4th floor reading room, which services archival and manuscripts material from the Southern Historical Collection, the Southern Folklife Collection, University Archives, and Rare Book Literary and Historical Papers. Primary duties are: management of reading room services and ensuring collection security; management of the circulation of special collections material; scheduling of reading room coverage, including staff and student schedules, in consultation with other departmental staff members; managing reproduction requests; participation in the analysis, development, and implementation of reading room policies and workflows; supervision of work assigned to student employees; reference services to library patrons in person, on the phone, via email and using online chat; instruction in the use of and troubleshooting of library reproduction equipment, including copy machines, microfilm reader/printers, digital cameras, and scanners; and other duties as assigned for the benefit of the library and its patrons.

Work Schedule
Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional, scheduled weekend work

Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, History, Library Science, or related fields; previous academic library and research and instructional services experience, preferably with special collections materials; familiarity with the process of conducting archival research; the ability to work well in an environment characterized by multiple complex demands; demonstrated experience with components of the Microsoft Office suite of applications and other library software systems; supervisory experience; experience training staff and designing workflows and procedures; and knowledge of Southern history, literature, and culture.
