The Library Service Center (LSC) is an off-site campus storage/holding facility shared by UNC Libraries and the Duke Library System. The Library Service Center Assistant in the Davis Library Circulation department will primarily be assigned to managing the physical preparation of library materials that are transported and stored at the LSC.
The person in this position will report to the Davis Library Special Projects Manager and will assist with managing the workflow of preparing and transporting materials stored and/or transferred to Wilson Annex. The Library Service Center Assistant will also work with the transfer of holdings from Davis and other UNC Chapel Hill Libraries. Other responsibilities include attaching barcodes to volumes designated for the Library Service Center, handling and organizing the volumes in specially designed trays/boxes by size and loading them onto book trucks to be transported to the Library Service Center.
The person in this position will also assist the Special Projects Manager with assigning and training temporary student and non-student employees on the processes and procedures to prepare and transport materials to the LSC. Some supervision of temporary student and non-student employees will be expected.
This position is being recruited for at the Contributing Competency Level under the Career Banding program.
Qualifications
Required:
Completion of high school and two years experience in office support, preferably as a library technician in a library.
Preferred:
Experience in a circulation department in an academic library is preferred. Knowledge of library classification systems, some college education, and experience with computers and automated systems.
