The Digitization Support Technician (DST) is primarily responsible for providing technical support for the services provided by the Digital Production Center. This position provides oversight of digitization production equipment [hardware and software], including selection, regular maintenance, and software and hardware upgrades. The DST will be responsible for calibrating and optimizing all components of digitization workstations. The DST will also have responsibility for digitization methods research and development including the investigation and implementation of new technologies [hardware and software] and image optimization processes [including command-line and graphical user interface (GUI) methods]. This position will be directly responsible for the development and production of the highest quality level of digital reproduction work performed by the DPC. The DST will also provide some regular, ongoing digitization support to the DPC. This person will handle rare, fragile, and valuable Library Special Collections materials. The DST will prepare and digitize source materials, create digital masters and associated technical metadata. The DST will be responsible for processing and optimizing master images as necessary to create access- and use-derivatives including the highest exhibit-quality print output. The DST is responsible for performing quality control for source materials and associated digital surrogates to assure image quality and filename consistency. The DST will also collaborate with patrons, library staff, technical experts, and other members of the department regarding the planning and completion of complex digital imaging projects and requests. The DST will also share supervision of project production staff [students, graduate assistants and others].
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.
Minimum Education and Experience:High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in the field of technology related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
In-depth experience in digital imaging technologies; Advanced knowledge of digitization processing software and techniques; Experience with metadata schema and structures such as XML; Experience with HTML and XHTML; Extensive knowledge of best practices of digitization and quality control; Extensive experience in digital photography or graphic arts; Experience with photographic lighting and illumination techniques; Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative setting with a wide range of professionals and non-professionals; Strong analytical and problem solving skills; Must be detail oriented and possess excellent organizational and project management skills.
