Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
The University Archives and Records Management Services (UARMS) is the official repository for the historically valuable and permanent records of both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the major administrative offices of the University of North Carolina System, headquartered in Chapel Hill, and provides guidance and assistance to departments and offices on the proper management of their records.

Reporting to the University Archivist and working closely with the Electronic Records and Repository Archivist, the Records Services Archivist serves as the initial contact between UARMS and offices and departments on records management. H/she will revise and update records retention schedules on an as needed basis, analyze and appraise University records to determine appropriate retention and disposition, coordinate record transfers, provide records management training to UNC-CH and UNC-GA staff, and provide administrative reference assistance to UNC-CH and UNC-GA staff. This position will also survey and identify records for transfer to the University Archives, including the ingest of electronic records into the Carolina Digital Repository (CDR).

The person in this position must have knowledge of and experience in applying the principles and practices of archival and records management; good communication skills to articulate the mission of the UARMS; the ability to analyze, appraise, describe, and assign disposition to public records; the ability to stay informed of current developments, trends, and technologies in archival and records management; the ability provide excellent customer service to a variety of constituencies; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university administrators, staff, faculty and students; and the ability to develop and conduct workshops and training for staff.

This position is being recruited for at the Contributing Competency Level under the Career Banding program. The hiring range for this position is $29,438 - $33,000.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.

Qualifications

Required:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in history, or a related social science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 1 year archival or records management experience.
Preferred:
Experience in performing records management functions; Knowledge of digital technology as it relates to archival and records management; Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative setting with a wide range of professionals and non-professionals; Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; Strong analytical and problem solving skills; Must be detail oriented and possess excellent organizational and project management skills.
