Position Title: Preservation Student Assistant
Position Description:
| The Preservation Department is currently accepting applications for one student assistant starting in April 2013 and continuing into the summer. We are looking for a student to construct bindings and enclosures for thin items which cannot be bound commercially, sewing items into binders, and gluing loose pages into items. The available position requires good hand skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to do repetitive tasks accurately and neatly. While some enclosures are premade and do not require the use of specialized equipment, the position requires the use of large board cutters, glue, and other tools necessary to create binders for books. We are looking for someone who is able to work independently in a busy but quiet environment. No prior experience is necessary as training is provided on the job; however, an interest in hands-on work is preferred. The applicant must be able to understand oral and demonstrated instruction and should be able to mimic trainer techniques. Interested applicants must be able to work between the hours of 8am-4pm Monday through Friday. We offer a flexible schedule within this time period and prefer applicants able to work 8 hours a week at first, with more hours available over the summer.
