Fines and Billing
Books and Theses: Daily overdue fines accrue at the rate of $0.50 per day for books and
theses to a maximum overdue fine of $25.00.
Reserve Materials: Fines for overdue reserve materials accrue at the rate of $1.00 per hour to a maximum overdue fine of $50.00 and will be charged to all users.
Recalled Books: The fines are larger for books that have been recalled for another borrower. For these items, the fine is $1.00 per item per day for overdue items to a maximum overdue fine of $56.50. There is no grace period for recall fines; fines begin accruing as soon as the book is overdue.
Lost book bills are generated the morning after the book has been assumed lost (42 days after due date). The bill for each lost book will be $125.00. If a book that has been assumed lost is returned, the lost book bill will be replaced by the $25.00 maximum overdue fine.
The Chemistry Library does not collect fines. No cash transactions are handled in the Chemistry Library. Fines can be paid at Davis Library, unless a bill has been received. To pay outstanding bills, faculty or general users should go to Davis Library. Students no longer pay overdue fines at the Cashier's Office in Bynum Hall. Student charges not paid at the Library are now due at The Office of Student Accounts and University Receivables, located in the Student Academic Services Building North, located on south campus at the intersection of Ridge Road and Manning Drive. Borrowers who feel that they have been billed in error and those who think that charges should be reduced or cancelled due to extenuating circumstances may appeal bills and charges by filling out an "Appeal of Library Charges" form available from the Davis Library circulation desk.
