President's Message

Where, oh where has the summer gone? After two months of leisure mingled with weekly stormy weather, the Librarians' Association at UNC-Chapel Hill (LAUNC-CH) is ready to resume its regularly scheduled programs.
The goals of LAUNC-CH are "to provide for professional growth and development of its members, to promote effective library service within the academic community, and to foster a spirit of cooperation among members of the library profession." This academic year we shall work cooperatively to achieve these goals. How may one contribute to the success of LAUNC-CH in 1996-97? Start by being present at the first LAUNC-CH program, the Fall Social, in September. At this event, there is the opportunity to make new friends, renew old acquaintances, enjoy light and delicious hors d'oeuvres, and pay yearly dues still at a bargain price of just $10.
The committee chairs for this year are: Terri Saye, Law Library, for the Conference Committee; Eileen McGrath, North Carolina Collection, for the Professional Welfare Committee; Steve Squires, Health Sciences Library, for the Program Committee; and John Rutledge, Davis Library, for the Professional Development Committee. Lynn Eades from Health Sciences Library , Geneva Holliday, and Lucinda Thompson from Davis Library are the editors of the Newsletter. Other members of the Executive Board are: Anita Booth from Davis Library, Treasurer; Bridget Loven from Health Sciences Library, Secretary; Jean Blackwell from Health Sciences Library is the Vice-President/President-Elect; and Linda Drake from Planning Library is our Past President.
We look forward to your suggestions for program topics and your cooperation as we work together towards a successful 1996-97.

--Brenda Ambrose-Fortune
LAUNC-CH President
