Hours:
The Manuscripts Department is open 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Please note that we cannot page new material after 5:30 on weekdays and after 12:30 on Saturdays.

The Department is closed on University holidays.
On Saturdays, limited reference service is available. Researchers are encouraged to make prior arrangements for use of materials on Saturdays.

PLEASE NOTE: We regret that we cannot offer same-day photocopying of materials contained in our collections. Please plan accordingly.

Driving Directions:

From Raleigh and points east:

• Take Interstate 40 west
• Take exit 273 (Highway 54) towards Chapel Hill
• Continue straight on Raleigh Road (Highway 54) for about 4 miles

From Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and points west:

• Take Interstate 85
• Take Interstate 40 east towards Raleigh
• Take exit 273 (Highway 54) towards Chapel Hill
• Continue straight on Raleigh Road (Highway 54) for about 4 miles

From Durham and points north:

• Take Interstate 85 to intersection with Highway 15-501 south
• Follow 15-501 south towards Chapel Hill; keep right as the highway divides
• Follow on 15-501 South (Bypass), bearing left as Franklin Street splits to the right
• Turn right onto the Highway 54 exit towards UNC-Chapel Hill

From Highway 54:

• The traffic light at the top of the hill marks the intersection of South Road (the continuation of Raleigh Road) and Country Club Road
• As you approach the light, turn into the UNC Visitor Parking Lot* on the right
• The parking lot is about 3 blocks from Wilson Library.
• Walk onto campus along South Road. You will pass the old Chapel Hill Cemetery and the Student Union on the right.
• The back of Wilson Library faces the Bell Tower on the left side of South Road (the front faces the Polk Place quadrangle).
• Enter the building via the side entrance between Wilson Library and the Undergraduate Library. This entrance is wheel chair accessible.
• Take the elevator or stairs to the 4th floor.
