Abstract Family correspondence and other papers of the Abernathy family of Tennessee and Texas. Family members include Jesse Jones
Abernathy (1817- 1895), his wife Sarah Esther Howard Abernathy, and the Abernathys' children, Alfred (born 1879) and Anesta
(1880-1973). Both Jesse Jones Abernathy and Alfred Abernathy were physicians and professors at the Medical College of the
University of the South. Anesta Abernathy was a nurse. Correspondence, chiefly 1907-1913, deals with family matters; community
affairs in Devine, Medina County, Tex.; and Alto and Monteagle, Tenn.; Alfred's activities at the University of the South;
and Anesta's activities as a nurse at various locations. Also included is an account book, 1868-1874, with records of medical
services rendered by Jesse Jones Abernathy.
