Abstract Colonel Julian Allen came from Russian Poland to New Orleans, La. in 1849, lived in New York from 1850, aided the United States government in connection with Sherman's occupation of Savannah, Ga., and settled after the war near Statesville in Iredell County, N.C., where he was prominent in farming. The collection is a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings and a few other items chiefly concerning Julian Allen's activities in business, politics, social reform, and progressive farming.

The scrapbook contains 41 pages of mounted clippings dated 1860-1888 primarily related to Colonel Julian Allen and his activities in business, politics, social reform, and progressive farming. Enclosed in the scrapbook are about 40 loose clippings similar to those in the scrapbook and a commission appointing Allen as an alternate delegate to the National Farmers Congress of November 1889.
