The American Cancer Society is a non-profit organization involved in cancer research, education, advocacy, and service. William Clyde "Bill"Friday acted as president of the North Carolina Division of the organization in the mid-1950s. Friday was later the president of the University of North Carolina, 1956-1986.

The collection includes office files of William Clyde Friday, consisting of correspondence, reports, lists, by-laws, budgets, surveys, and other papers relating to the organization and program of the society.
