Scope and Content
The collection includes a report (26 pages) by William F. Atkinson to the North Carolina Immigration Association on a trip to Switzerland to recruit immigrant labor for planters and records of his travel expenses. Atkinson's report indicates that he returned to Goldsboro with sixty-two persons. There is also an undated, detailed statement of evidence of loyalty to the United States during the Civil War by a North Carolinian and an enumeration of losses and damages incurred from a visit of Sherman's cavalry to his property.
