Thomas Contee Bowie lived in Tensas Parish, La., between 1857 and 1877, during which time he kept bee hives and operated a cotton gin.

One typescript copy of a brief diary, January-September 1857, of Thomas C. Bowie of Tensas Parish, La., consisting of terse entries regarding Bowie's flirtations and courtship of several young ladies, hunting, church activities, and his fights with other young men; and one day book, 1874 to 1877, consisting of entries regarding Bowie's bee hives and cotton ginning activities, as well as records of servants' work.
