The collection contains a daybook and two ledgers containing accounts from widely scattered dates of a Currituck County, N.C., general store and saloon. Accounts for 1856 are of John Gray; all others are of Philip N. Bray, Sligo, N.C.

Philip Northern Bray (1858-1938) of Currituck County, N.C., was the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Humphries Bray. He was a farmer and lumberman, sometime postmaster at Sligo, N.C., Register of Deeds, 1910-1914, and had a country store and barroom.
