Lois Tomlinson Byrd received her A.B. in journalism from the University of North Carolina in 1935. After graduation, she worked at the Tribune in New Bern, N.C. In mid-1936, she became the first director of the Meredith College News Bureau.

Mostly letters, 1934-1937, to Lois Tomlinson Byrd from former fellow co-eds at the University of North Carolina. Letters discuss social life, careers, memories of university days, husbands and relatives, and other matters. Also included are a few items relating to a co-ed sponsored dance that Byrd organized at UNC in 1935, and photocopies of some of Byrd's comments about materials in the collection.
