Included is a multi-volume diary of Cilley with very brief entries describing Cilley and Harper family activities; life in Lenoir and Hickory, N.C.; law practice on the circuit; training of law students in his office; and activities as an Episcopal layman. There are also scrapbooks, assembled by Cilley or his wife, containing clippings from the 1870s and 1880s about people they knew or topics of general interest to them. Also included are a few loose clippings and photocopies of documents relating to Cilley's application for a medal of honor for his conduct at the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863.
