Scope and Content
The collection includes the first draft (typescript) of Desmond Clarke's biography of Arthur Dobbs, including appendices and other material omitted from the published version; copies of letters and papers of Dobbs, collected by Clarke; and Clarke's correspondence, 1951-1954, relating to the book. The Arthur Dobbs papers are typescripts and photocopies of the correspondence of Dobbs with various persons and bodies in Ireland and North Carolina, including Robert Walpole, William Faris, the North Carolina Assembly, and Board of Trade. The papers of Desmonde Clarke include correspondence with relatives of Arthur Dobbs, including A. E. Dobbs and F. W. Dobbs; Dobbs genealogical material; pictures; and responses to the draft of his biography.
