| Abstract | R. R. Corson, of the 1st Pennsylvania Reserve Cavalry, served as captain and Assistant Adjunct General to Brigadier General George D. Bayard. All letters were written by R. R. Corson and addressed to Jared Evans, Esq., of Pennsylvania. They pertain mostly to Corson's financial matters and provide instructions to Evans for selling of goods and payments of debts on Corson's behalf. Most letters only briefly detail events pertaining to Corson's service, but one letter written 2 August 1862 from Culpeper, Va., expresses Corson's frustrations at having to safeguard rebel property and rebel symphathizers while members of the Union Army were being denied rations. In this letter, Corson described how he disobeyed General McDowell's orders by breaking into a barn to steal food and animal feed. Corson also discussed the need for horsemen, and teamsters and supplied Evans with directions as to where prospective Pennsylvania volunteers could be sent. Other letters mention the delay of wages, Corson's promotion, and the expected promotion of Colonel George D. Bayard to Brigadier General. |

All letters, 1861-1864, were written by R. R. Corson of the 1st Pennsylvania Reserve Cavalry and addressed to Jared Evans, Esq., of Pennsylvania.
