Abstract Lucy S. Costen of Gatesville, N.C., was chairperson of the Gates County Civil War Centennial observations. The collection contains photocopies of materials gathered by Lucy S. Costen, including seven letters from Isaac Walters, written in Confederate army camps in the Petersburg area of Virginia, 1862-1863, and other manuscripts relating to residents of Gates County, N.C., during the Civil War. Letters chiefly concern food, health, war news, and Walters's faith.
