Abstract Edmund DeBerry Covington was the son of Benjamin Hamilton and Jane Wall Covington, born 25 September 1823 in Rockingham, N.C. He attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and graduated in 1844. He died of pneumonia on 25 December 1845. The diary kept by Covington during his student days at the University of North Carolina, 1841-1843, contains scattered diary and other entries, including original compositions, extracts, a list of books read, and a prophecy concerning his classmates.
