Abstract: Scattered family papers and data pertaining to the
descendants of John Daves (1748-1804) of New Bern,
N.C., and to related branches of the Haynes, Pugh, and
Collins families. Correspondence includes letters,
1803-1818, received by Josiah Collins, Jr. (1768-1839)
of Edenton, N.C., from relatives in New Bern, N.C.,
concerning business, banking, and family matters; a
deed of sale for slaves, Craven County, N.C., 1816;
and letters, 1855, to Edward Graham Daves (1833-1894)
of Cambridge, Mass., concerning the illness and death
of his brother Jack.

DESCRIPTION
Family data on descendants of Captain John Daves, who was born
in Mecklenburg County, Va., in 1748 and died in New Bern, N.C.,
1804.
Folder 1 1803-1900, Daves and Collins family correspondence and
other papers. Family and biographical data with
miscellaneous genealogical notes and data on Daves,
Eaton, and Haynes families in North Carolina. There
are also items concerning William Eaton (d. 1759) of
Granville County, who died in 1759, and a biographical
sketch of Graham Daves (1836-1902) and a clipping
about Myer Myers, an early New York goldsmith. There
is also a copy of "A Register kept by Thomas Haynes,
Jr.," begun in 1708 when he married Martha Jones and
continued by other members of the Haynes and Pugh
family to 1797 with births and deaths.
Folder 2 1803-1818. Mainly letters to Josiah Collins, Jr.
(1768-1839) of Edenton, N.C., from relatives in New
Bern, N.C., about business, banking, and family
matters. Also included is a deed of sale for slaves,
1816.
Folder 3 1855-1900. Seven letters from 1855 to Edward Graham
Daves (1833-1894) in Cambridge, Mass., concerning the
illness and death of his brother Jack. There are also
scattered family items including a certificate from
the Society of the Cincinnati, 1893, relating to the
service of Captain John Daves.
