Francis Warrington Dawson was the editor of the News and Courier, a newspaper of Charleston, S.C. The collection includes three letters from Captain W. H. Bixby of the United States Corps of Engineers to Dawson concerning river and harbor improvements in North Carolina and South Carolina, and one letter from Lewis M. Haupt to J. C. Hemphill on the Charleston harbor, 1892.
