Abstract James E. Decker of Baldwinsville, N.Y., was a Union soldier during the Civil War. He served in Battery B of the 1st New York Light Artillery Regiment, also known as Pettit's Battery. Decker was promoted to corporal on 10 December 1862 and was later promoted to sergeant on 1 September 1863. The collection contains photostats of letters written by James E. Decker, chiefly from Virginia, to his father, Andrew Decker, and his sister, Frances Decker, regarding his wartime experiences.
