                      GALLOWAY FAMILY PAPERS

Abstract: Galloway family of Scotland, Rockingham County,
N.C., and Maury County, Tenn. Family members were chiefly
merchants and land speculators. Letters, deeds, wills,
indentures, and other items relating to various members
of the Galloway family.  Included is a 1783 letter from
Charles Galloway in Glasgow, Scotland, to James Galloway
in Rockingham County, N.C., about trade between the two
localities; a 1788 letter to James from a Wilmington,
N.C., merchant about local and international trade; two
1817 letters from Marion Galloway at school in Warrenton,
N.C., to her parents in Rockingham County about her
progress at school; a 16-page equity action written by
Robert Galloway in 1822 that summarizes the activities of
Galloway & Company, merchants, from 1778 to 1822; and
various deeds, bills of sale, and other papers that
document the family's ownership of property chiefly in
Rockingham County, N.C., and Maury County, Tenn.
